The UI process is divided into few steps:
- Knowledge Gathering
- Graphic-Operational Concept design
- Prototype design
- Full application design.
The first step is Knowledge Gathering - Collecting information about the product (existing or planned), potential users and competitors. The data includes product's requirements, users' needs and the client's resources - human, financial and time - limits. The outcome of the Knowledge gathering step is MDI/MRD Document.
When designing a new GUI for an existing application the step includes analysis of the current application flow and usability strengths and weaknesses.
When the learning phase is over, conclusions can be made. It is time to figure out how the user will operate and navigate the application.
